Lake trout tagging is over for 2014. Over the course of the last three weeks we handled nearly 250 lake trout. The largest fish we saw over the course of the fall was this 915 mm lunker on Big Shoal in the East Arm. This fish was originally tagged in 2005 on Big Shoal at a size of 820 mm. He was recaptured in 2006 at Wishbone Island in the East arm and again in 2007 back on Big Shoal. He hasn’t been seen again until now! After a quick photo he was safely released back into the lake.
We would like to thank all of the volunteers and Experience Algonquin Citizen Scientists who helped make the tagging program such a success once again this season! See you next fall!
