Research Scientist, Fishes and Fish Habitat
Great Lakes Laboratory for Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences
Fisheries and Oceans Canada
Background:
I am an ecologist with a focus on freshwater fishes and fish habitat in lakes and rivers. I study drivers of fish biodiversity patterns, the impacts of human activities (e.g., urban development) and climate change on aquatic ecosystems, and the conservation and management of fishes and fisheries. My lab integrates empirical data, ecological theory, statistics, and GIS to look for patterns in aquatic ecosystems and learn more about how they function.
Research Area:
My recent areas of concentration are:
- Environmental and historical drivers of freshwater fish biodiversity patterns
- Climate change impacts on fish and aquatic ecosystems
- Cumulative effects of and interactions among human activities on fish and fish habitat
Graduate Education:
- B.Sc. Hons. University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario
- M.Sc. University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario
- Ph.D. Trent University, Peterborough, Ontario
Cross-Appointments:
- Dept. of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Toronto
Graduate Students
I supervise graduate students or serve on graduate student committees through cross-appointments. Students interested in graduate opportunities should check the University of Toronto web site.
