Background:

I started at Harkness in 1983 doing my Ph.D. research (1983-86). Following that period, I worked at the Glenora Fisheries Station (NDMNRF) on Lake Ontario and continued field work on Lake Opeongo bass. Since 1990 I've been the Director at Harkness.

Research Areas:

My research covers basic and applied areas of fish ecology and aquatic science in support of resource policy and management for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry. Questions ranging from behavioural and population ecology, life history and habitat use through to watershed scales are topics of interest to me.

Check the aquatic research list for more descriptions of projects.  Check the website FisheriesQU for a large collaborative project with Bruce Tufts at Queen's University

Cross-Appointments:

  • Environmental and Life Sciences, Trent University
  • Dept. of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Toronto
  • Dept. of Biology, Queen's University

Graduate Students:

I supervise grad students at Trent Univ. or serve on graduate student committees through cross-appointments. Students interested in graduate opportunities should check the Trent University web site. Here is a link Graduate Studies.

There is a large group of faculty at Trent with a wide range of research interests including population ecology and conservation biology.
