There are many opportunities for graduate student research at Harkness whether with me or my colleagues and university collaborators. Check this website for contacts, publications and additional websites to see if they align with your interests.
I'm interested in motivated students with a keen interest in field-based ecology. Opportunities are competitive. I find successful students: 1) possess a fascination with nature and the outdoors; 2) combine their interests in fish ecology and aquatic science with a desire to develop a deeper, discipline-based understanding of ecology; 3) read the literature extensively, and 4) have as a goal a career in science and/or resource management (agency, ngo's, university, private sector).
Grad student research is often part of larger research programs at Harkness or in collaboration with university faculty and their programs. Grad students can work at fairly large scales or in a number of sites. An ability to work in a collaborative environment and to work well with others is important at Harkness. Generally, whether for grad school or beyond, being a civil and valued colleague is always important.
