Welcome to Harkness (established in 1936…)

Harkness Lab turns 88 on May 23, 2024

***Student Positions for Summer 2024***

Harkness Laboratory is a field station focusing on ecological research for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry.  We serve as a base of operation for aquatic and terrestrial research by government scientists, university faculty and graduate students.  We're located on Lake Opeongo in Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada.

Harkness is one of Canada's oldest field stations. It's been a centre of excellence in fisheries and aquatic ecology since 1936. The first field day was May 23, 1936 when Fred Fry set out to interview anglers on Lake Opeongo.
